Making Bank!: How to avoid loosing your cash to financial expoitation

 

Our previous post showed how you can spot the signs of someone trying to take advantage of you for financial exploitation.  Here we will discuss how you can take action to prevent loosing your money to fraud, blackmail, and scams. 

What to do if you are a victim of Financial Exploitation? 

If you believe you are a victim of financial exploitation you should notify the policie immediately. 

The best way to avoid becoming a vicitim is to learn the identifiers of financial expolitiation and know when someone may be trying to exploit you.  While some forms are difficult to spot or mitigate, such as blackmail, scams are relativeley easy to spot if you know what you are looking for. 

Some scammers have become wise and can now reproduce highly convincing copies of websites and official emails.  If you are asked to pay a bill that you don't agree with, always contcat the company first to verify.  Never give your personal information or bank details to anyone you don't fully trust.  

You can report scams in the UK to ActionFraud via their website. 

If you belive you are a victim of blackmail it may be embarassing or feel dangerous to contact the police.  You should stand your ground and get in contact with the authorites to report this anyway.  While it may be frightening, they will be able to act and work to trace the perpatrator before you give them any money. Always call 999 if you feel threatened or at risk.

Financial exploitation has become so common as a result of social meida that banks and financial instaitutions are clued up on how to help.  Most banks are able to provide support if you have become a victim of fraud and can work with authorities to pursue criminals. Seek support through your bank to help recover any stolen funds and stop any further transactions but always be sure to contact the police to help track down the criminals.  

Taking these steps will help to make sure more people avoid exploitation and keep hold of their hard earned £££.
